Porcupine Plain Comprehensive School
Porcupine Plain opened the doors of its brand new K-12 school in May of 2012.
P.P.C.S is grades K through 12, with approximately ___ students and 18 teaching staff. Students are mostly rural (70%) and are bussed from a geographical area of approximately 920 square miles. Students come to P.P.C.H.S from the communities of Chelan, Mistatim, Prairie River, Somme, Carragana and from Greenwater Provincial Park.
The emphasis in P.P.C.H.S is on academics, but, an extensive and successful extracurricular program is also offered to our students. Many students choose to be involved in a variety of diverse programs including:
- a very active and successful drama club
- the yearbook club
- the school newspaper (“The Gazette”)
- sports – football, volleyball, basketball, golf, badminton, track & field and softball
P.P.C.S also offers many vocational classes to its students. There is a modern and well equipped shop where drafting, woodworking, metal working and photography skills are taught and practiced. Food preparation, sewing and interior design are taught in the Home Economics lab. In addition community businesses have joined with P.P.C.H.S to offer an excellent Work Education program where students learn about, and experience, the word of work.
P.P.C.S. places a strong emphasis on academics, as well as a focus on meeting the special needs of student with learning difficulties. Other activities students participate in are:

Finally, P.P.C.S has been surfing the leading edge of information technology. In cooperation with Industry Canada and the Community Access Program P.P.C.H.S is host to a regional Internet service provider. Students have nearly unlimited access to the Internet and are able to use the modern computer lab in classes ranging from the traditional English and History classes to Information Processing. Electronic spreadsheet applications are used in accounting classes and computer assisted design software is used for drafting and shop projects.
Approximately 70% of our students are from the rural area surrounding Porcupine Plain, they are bussed in from the communities of Chelan, Somme, Prairie River, Carragana and Greenwater Provincial Park.

Cumberland Regional College
C umberland Regional College offer a wide range of academic and non-academic programs. They have a strong partnership with the Universities of Regina & Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science & Technology (SIAST). Cumberland Regional College has locations in Hudson Bay, Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale. Depending on the number of students, the college will offer specific classes in Porcupine Plain, such as Special Care Aid and Computers.
